What is the Gospel?

Gospel means good news.

But there is also bad news:

We are all sinners before God through the inheritance of Adam, who disobeyed God’s command not to eat the forbidden fruit, and are therefore we are enemies of God.

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 5,12

All human beings are born with the inheritance of Adam and are by nature enemies of God.

But there is also good news:

Jesus Christ took our place on the cross and suffered the death we deserved, giving us eternal life.

1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Romans 5,1

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 1,11-12

How to accept Jesus is seen in the story of the two criminals who were crucified with Jesus:

39 ¶ And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Luke 23:39-43

The first criminal wanted Jesus to solve his problems so that he could go on with his earthly life and continue robbing and murdering as before.

The second was aware of his guilt and his repentance and faith in Christ saved him from damnation.

In the same way, we have to repent our sins and accept Jesus as our Savior.

And when we have accepted Christ, we get the Holy Spirit who accompanies us on our way every day.

To welcome Jesus into your heart, you can pray as follows:

Our good Father in heaven, I now realize that I am a sinner like everyone in this world and I repent of my sin.

I open my heart now and receive Jesus Christ as my Savior.

Thank you for this great gift of salvation through your work on the cross, which you also accomplished for me.

Do your will with me according to the purpose you have for me.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

16 ¶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

When you have invited Jesus Christ into your heart as your personal Savior, this is what happens:

• Jesus Christ comes into her life (Revelation 3:20)

• You have become a child of God (John 1:1-2)

• Your sins are forgiven (Colossians 1:14)

• You will receive the gift of eternal life (Joh 5:11)

the bible says

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
