Lyrics:

Lyrics
I lift up my eyes to the mountains.
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from God,
who created heaven and earth.

He moves his hands when I pray.
I am quiet; he is fighting for me.
He guards me every day like a shepherd.
He leads me and protects me; he is the good shepherd.

I will always praise him.
I will always pray
to my great God,
my help, my strength.

Interview

Q: Could you please tell me the background of your song “I lift up my eyes”?
A: I was in the living room and wanted to write a new song. There is a verse in the Bible which says: “Come and sing a new song for the Lord.” So I have the habit of writing new songs frequently. In this case, I first played some new chords on my guitar and then I selected words from Psalm 121. I love to recite the words of the Bible in my songs, because for me the words of the Bible are always strong and encouraging. I only recited the first two phrases from this Psalm, and then I added my own thoughts about it to the text.

Q: Which musical instrument did you choose when you created this song?
A: I used the guitar. I like to play some chords on the guitar until they transform into a melody and finally into a song.

Q: From your lyrics, which sentence left the deepest impression on you?
A: “He guards me every day like a shepherd.” When I pray and hand my troubles over to the Lord, we enter into a sheep–shepherd relationship. When I was young, we had three sheep at home. They were wonderful animals. If you imitated their voices, they would answer and want to talk to you. We had to raise one sheep with a bottle of milk, and it followed us like a dog. The others followed me whenever I walked with them outside. A sheep trusts its shepherd, and a good shepherd defends his sheep from all dangerous situations.

Q: Could you please say something to Chinese audiences and let them feel the same peaceful and joyful mood as you?
A: When life is hard and we fall into troubles and depression, the first thing we have to do is lift up our eyes. We gain nothing when we walk around with our heads hanging down, feeling sorry for ourselves. The next thing we have to do is hand our problems over to the Lord. There is absolutely no meaning in telling all our neighbors and friends about our troubles. They cannot solve them. But there is one in the universe who can: he who created us and holds all power in his hands. He is already waiting for us to come and tell him even the smallest thing in our lives, and nothing is too great or too small for him—he wants to take care of it. But we must allow him to work in our lives. Our creator is a gentleman; he does nothing in our lives without permission.

Now let us enjoy the song. .
