John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Shineth—or shine through?
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 No man had seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

My summary of John 1: 1-18 study:

I think John 1 is a special chapter in the Bible that talks about God and his word. It tells us that the word is very important because it helps create everything in the world. The Word is also like a light that guides us and shows us the way.
In this chapter, John says that he was sent by God to tell people about the word. He wasn’t just a messenger; he was chosen by God to share this important message. John also says that Jesus, who is the word, came to Earth to be close to us. He is full of love and kindness, and He can help us become better people.
The passage also talks about how we can have faith in Jesus to receive salvation and be saved from our mistakes. It compares this to the law given by moses, which shows us how we should live but cannot save us on its own.
So, John 1 teaches us about the importance of the word, Jesus, and having faith in Him for our salvation.
But where John comes from and who is John in God’s eyes? I have no idea.

Hello everybody. We started to read the gospel of John. The autor is not the John who appears in this chapter. There was John the apostel and evangelist and John the baptist. Here we meet John the baptist.

The Gospel of John was written to defend the pure gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ against other doctrines.

John wrote it, when he was isolated on the Pathmos isle. There he wrote the book of Revelation, too.

The text we read today is not only to be better people and not to be punished because we did mistakes. The text tells us, that we can be free from the power of the darkness and live in the light as children of God.

There are a lot of good people on the world, but they are not children of God and when they will be judged in the end of time, the judgment will be, that they refused the work of Jesus Christ, who died for our sins on the cross.

But when we receive Jesus Christ as our saviour the worst person can convert into a child of God and of course living in the light after that.

Sister, What is the significance of the words in this 1-18 passage?

In the first part, John the apostel and evangelists intention was, to describe how the things were in the beginning, before earth existed and there was only God.

We meet in the story of the creation of earth the three persons of God, who are one: The spirit of God was above the waters, God spoke and through the word he has spoken everything was created.

We see the three persons of God in the sentence “Let us make human beings” once again.

It is very difficult for us to understand, who and how God is, because he is spirit, but John the apostel refers, that Jesus before his life on earth was like the greek word logos, a spoken word, a knowledge about something like the word biology.

When we will be in heaven, it will take us millions of years without understanding how the three persons of God are only one God. John wrote this passage for us, to have it clear, that Jesus Christ was in heaven before his earthly being and he left all the glory he had in heaven behind for to save us.

How does John describe the relationship between the word and God?

He describes that Jesus was with God and Jesus as a person is God, too. Both persons are together with the Holy Spirit one God.

What role does the word play in the creation of all things?

Everything has been created through the word. God spoke a word and the thing were there. He did not take something in his hands to create, it was just one word he said.

In what way was the life of the word a light for men? Sister, pls make an simple expression on it.

Before Jesus came, was a lot of darkness on the earth, because Satan and his angeles conquered the world. Darkness is nothing more than the absence of the light.

Everybody would like to be illuminated and have part in God. But since Jesus is the light, we only get real illumination when we repent and let him be part in our life.

Why did the darkness fail to comprehend the light?

They wanted to blow out the light by killing Jesus. It seemed that they did not calculate, that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and that he is the life. You can t kill the life and that is why Jesus was able to stand up from the grave again and has the power to destroy the works of the devil.

Who is John, and why was he sent from God?

In this passage of the bible we meet John the baptist.
He is not the John who wrote this gospel.

In the gospel of Luke, the origin of John the baptist is described:
He is the son of Elizabeth and Zaccharias, a priest, and was already in the body of his mother filled with the Holy spirit.

We meet John the passage here baptizing the people with the baptism of repentance. There was a lot of sin and religiousness in the Jewish people that day, so it was necessary to prepare the people for the coming Messiah.

What is John’s purpose as a witness?

John the baptist prepared the way for the coming Messiah, who is Jesus by preaching: Repent yourselv, because the kingdom of God is near.

The old testament says: Before the Messiah comes, there will come Elia again. John was not Elia, the profet, but he came in the spirit of Elia and fullfilled the old testaments quote and he was the last of the prophets who talked in Israel.

How does John distinguish himself from the true Light?

People asked themselves it it was John who is the messiah, because he talked about the kingdom of God, but he knew clearly, that his purpose was only to prepare the way for the coming.

Who is the true Light that comes into the world?

The true light that comes in the world is Jesus Christ.

How does the world respond to the presence of the true Light?

Jesus came first of all to the people in Israel, but most of them, especially the religious leaders of them refused him.

What happens to those who receive the true Light?

Those who recived Jesus Christ as their saviour were born once again in the Holy Spirit and have the right to be called children of God.

It is not a fleshly rebirth like the Asian religions say. It is only a spiritual rebirth, that connects your spirit to the Holy Spirit.

How does Jesus Christ bring grace and truth to humanity? Pls make an example, sister.

Jesus is the grace and the truth. He never sinned. He resisted the devil, when he tried to tempt him.

Jesus and God the father and the Holy Spirit are one. The people around Jesus could see God father by looking at him.

But the most important thing is, that Jesus payed at the cross the price for sin: The price for sin is death and that is why we all have to die one day, but the gift of God is Jesus Christ who gives us eternal life.

We will keep on reading the gospel of John and read, that a person who has received Jesus Chris as personal saviour won t come into judgement, but will go directly to eternal life after earthly death.

Today it is enough to focus, that Jesus Christ is the life. We never will die, we will live forever with him in the glory of his kingdom.
