The Transfiguration

28 About eight days after these sayings, Jesus took Peter, John, and James with Him and went up the mountain to pray.
29 As He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothing became dazzling white.
30 Suddenly, two men appeared and were talking with Him—Moses and Elijah—
31 who appeared in glory and spoke with Him about His departure, which He was about to accomplish in Jerusalem.
32 Peter and those with him were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men standing with Him.
33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to Him, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah,” not realizing what he was saying.
34 While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
35 Then a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to Him!”
36 When the voice had spoken, they found Jesus alone. They kept silent and, in those days, told no one what they had seen.

Then I read the Chinese translation later. Then we start the next part below.

Hello everyone, I am Kiki.
The Chinese name of our second phase of the program is “读经大讲堂”.
The English name is “Bible Study.”

We will use a relaxed and enjoyable learning style to bring you into a new world of study. Each time, I will give a personal summary and analysis from the perspective of a learner, and then Sister Ingrid will help me go deeper with explanations and discussions.

I hope that this interesting and interactive process will bring new learning experiences to all of you. The following is my interview with Sister Ingrid on related topics. Today is the 25th lecture on the Gospel of Luke.
Everyone is welcome to leave a comment for discussion!

2. My Summary of the 25th Study of Luke

Alright, everyone! First, here is my personal study summary for today:

Jesus took Peter, John, and James up a mountain to pray. While He was praying, His appearance changed dramatically: His face shone, and His clothes became dazzling white. Then the two greatest figures of the Old Testament—Moses and Elijah—appeared in glory and spoke with Jesus about His coming death in Jerusalem.

The disciples, once fully awake, were amazed. Peter, overwhelmed, suggested building three shelters to honor Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. But then a cloud, symbolizing God’s presence, covered them, and a voice spoke from the cloud:
“This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to Him!”

After that, everything returned to normal—Jesus was alone again. The disciples were so astonished by this glimpse of His divine glory that they told no one what they had seen.

Now Sister Ingrid will give a deeper summary.

3. Sister Ingrid’s Comment on My Summary

Hello everybody. It is always interesting, that Jesus selects Peter Jamens and John to be with him on the mountain. God does not discrimate, but Jesus selected three of the disiples to have a leaders rol after his resurrection.

Something that is of interests, too is, that the disciples were sleepy. Later in the garden Getsemanie where Jesus swetted blood and asked the father if it is possible, that this cup will pass by, the disciples slept, too.

The men that appeared were Elijah, who represents the prophets and Moises, who represents the law, because in the Old Testimonys scriptures it was written about the coming of the Messiah.

When the disciples awoke, Peter wanted to build cottages for Moises and Elijah.
But it came a cloud, that made them fear and the cloud spoke to them.

It was the same voice that came out of heaven at Jesus baptism, that said, that Jesus was the son of God and they should hear what he says.

Jesus had no earthly witness, that said, that he is the son of God. But God confirmed two times through a voice from heaven, that Jesus is the son on God.

4. Question List Based on the 25th Study of Luke

Based on today’s study of the Bible passage, I will now ask Sister Ingrid some related questions.
We hope the following questions will help our brothers and sisters who have recently become Christians.

1. What amazing change happened to Jesus’ appearance and clothes while He was praying?

The appearance of His face changed, and His clothes became whiter than any earthly bleach could make them.

2. Who were the two famous figures from the past who appeared and talked with Jesus?

They were Moses and Elijah.
Moses represents the Law of the Old Testament, and Elijah represents the Prophets.

3. What important event were Moses and Elijah talking to Jesus about, which was going to happen in Jerusalem?

They talked about His coming sacrifice in Jerusalem—how He would die for the sins of the world so that ordinary people like you and me can be reconciled with God and restored to fellowship with Him, and have eternal life after death.

4. How did Peter, John, and James feel at first, and what did they see when they fully woke up?

They were frightened and overwhelmed.

5. Why did Peter suggest building three tents? What does it mean that he “did not know what he was saying”?

Peter suggested building three shelters, one for each of them.
He did not know what he was saying because he spoke out of fear and confusion, and it makes no sense to build earthly shelters for heavenly figures.

6. What frightening thing happened right after Peter spoke, and how did the disciples feel?

A cloud came down from heaven and covered them. They were very afraid.

7. What did the voice from the cloud say about Jesus, and what instruction did it give?

The voice from heaven said:
“This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to Him.”

It was the second confirmation from God the Father that Jesus is His Son. The third confirmation came later from Jesus Himself, although by then it was already clear who He was.

8. After everything was over and the voice was gone, who was left alone with the disciples?

Jesus was alone with the disciples.

9. Why do you think the disciples decided to keep this incredible experience a secret at that time?

Because Jesus told them to keep it secret until after He rose from the dead.
Another reason is that no one would have believed such an extraordinary story at that time.

10. If you had been one of the disciples who witnessed this event, which part do you think would have been the most memorable or shocking for you, and why?

For me, the cloud and the voice from heaven would have been the most shocking.
But seeing Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus would also have been unforgettable.
